The “MEXT Nanotechnology Support Project” will reach its completion in March 2007. Launched in 2002, the Nanotechnology Researchers Network Center of Japan, nanonet has spearheaded this five-year project to strengthen and expand the network among nanotechnology researchers. Without your strong support and cooperation, we could not have delivered a host of accomplishments including the following: International Symposiums on Nanotechnology (JAPAN NANO 2003-2007) to introduce cutting-edge researches in an easy-to-understand manner and to promote exchanges between researchers; the Nanotechnology Cross-sectional School where researchers from different fields gather to learn nanotechnology so that they can integrate it to their own expertise to create a new field; support for training researchers in nanotechnology by utilizing high-tech equipment and facilities, User Facilities; and the Nanotechnology Summer School to nurture young leaders for the next generation. All these activities across different research fields were enabled by your cooperation and have been well-supported by people involved in developing nanotechnology, as is attested to by the large number of accesses to the Center’s Web site and participants in various events of the Center. We believe that the Center’s initiatives and roles have been well-understood by not only researchers but also the general public in Japan.
While not much time is left till the project’s completion, we need to continue to work hard so that we can hand over the five years’ worth of achievements to the upcoming Nanotechnology Network program and lay the groundwork for further progress. We will remain in close contact with all relevant people and organizations, and endeavor to meet every one of your needs in as appropriate a manner as possible, in order to promote nanotechnology in Japan. We would appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
