Now, I know that a “nanometer” is very small. But I'm still wondering what that nanoworld is like.
In our world, there are lots of things.
And everything, such as flowers, cars and our bodies, is made from about one hundred different kinds of atoms.
Atoms?
For example, if you keep cutting an iron bar in half, you eventually get a particle that cannot be cut any more.
This is an atom of iron!
The size of an atom is a few tenths of one nanometer,
and there are about 100 different kinds of atoms.
Our complex world is made up of atoms that are bound together in various ways.
One nanometer is nearly the length of three atoms connected in series.
One strand of DNA, which contains all of the information for our body, is only two nanometers wide.
Our bodies, consisting of bones, eyes, limbs, etc. are made of proteins, which are composed of various nanometer-sized amino acids arranged according to the DNA information.
If we can control the information from DNA, totally different creatures can be made.
In other words, the nanoworld determinds what our world is like.
